Pasta Bolognese

Serves 4
Cook Time: 30 minutes

INGREDIENTS
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 medium white onion, chopped
3-4 garlic cloves, minced (depending on how much you like garlic)
1 pound of ground beef
1 teaspoon salt, more to taste
black pepper to taste
560g tomato sauce (brand of choice)
pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)
pinch of dried oregano
cooked pasta of choice or zucchini noodles

STEPS

  1. Warm a saucepan over medium heat. Add olive oil. Once oil can be easily moved around across the pan, add the chopped onion. Stir frequently and let cook until onion turns translucent. Then stir in the minced garlic and let cook for another 30 seconds.
  2. Remove the ground beed from the packaging and add it directly into the saucepan. Break it up with your spatula and mix in well with the onion and garlic. Let cook, stirring occasionally, until the beef is no longer pink and has turned a light brown/grey color. The beef should look crumbly. Add salt and pepper and mix in.
  3. Pour in the tomato sauce and stir to mix well with the meat. Add a pinch of red pepper flakes and dried oregano. Bring tomato sauce to a boil and then reduce heat to a gentle simmer. Cover the pot and let cook all together for 15 minutes.
  4. Once you've cooked and drained your pasta of choice, return pasta to its pot and pour a few spoons of bolognese sauce over the pasta. Mix in. Continue adding more sauce until you reach your desired sauciness. I like my pasta very saucy!
  5. If you're cooking with zucchini noodles, I would serve the noodles raw and pour the bolognese sauce directly over them on your plate. The heat of the sauce will cook the noodles just enough for them to not get soggy. Enjoy :)
